About Marta

Dr. Marta Carmona is an accomplished educational leader and Chief of Special Projects, where she assists with initiatives requiring superintendent-level expertise. Her career in education began as a teacher and was shaped by influential mentors, including Kay Dale, who emphasized the importance of building strong relationships; Mrs. Townsley, who demonstrated the value of genuinely caring for others; and high school band director John Bailey, who taught her to lead by example, support those who need improvement, and understand the importance of preparation and punctuality. These early lessons became foundational to her leadership philosophy and professional growth.

Carmona advanced into school administration, serving as a principal before spending eight years as an Internal Auditor for Curriculum and Instruction. In that role, she developed broad expertise across finance, human resources, technology, operations, and academics, gaining a comprehensive understanding of district functions and organizational systems. Her experience prepared her to serve as Interim Superintendent and later as Deputy Superintendent with El Paso Independent School District, where she provided leadership across technology, academics, school leadership, and operations. She also maintains an active mortgage lending license, reflecting her commitment to maintaining an additional professional pathway.

Dr. Carmona holds a doctoral degree in education from Baylor University, with a focus on Learning and Organizational Change, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Bilingual, Multilingual, and Multicultural Education from The University of Texas at El Paso. She is active in professional organizations including TASBO, TASSA, the Texas Council of Women School Executives, and the Association of Fraud Examiners. Throughout her career, Carmona has remained committed to continuous learning, meaningful relationships, preparation, and leading by example while contributing to the success of students, educators, and the broader school community.
