Her Story
About Marta
I’ve learned that it’s never too late to pivot, make a change, and pursue something that challenges and fulfills you. After more than 20 years in one career, I took a leap and chose to start a new chapter in healthcare. It wasn’t always easy, but the experience reminded me that growth often happens when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone, believe in yourself, and keep moving forward.
My hope is to inspire other women to trust themselves, embrace change, and never let the fear of starting over keep them from pursuing something more meaningful. With the right mindset, determination, and support, a new chapter can become your greatest one yet.

Ten minutes with Marta
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to self-motivation, determination, and a willingness to keep pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a strong support system, especially my husband and mom, along with friends, leaders, and mentors who have believed in me and encouraged me along the way. Most importantly, I want to be an example to my children and show them that it’s never too late to pursue a new career, challenge and take a chance on yourself, and work hard for something that truly fulfills you.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself and stay the course once you’ve made the decision to pursue something new. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or seek out people who can guide and encourage you along the way. Having the right people in your corner can make all the difference. There are mentors, supporters, and people who genuinely want to see you succeed—you just have to be open to finding them and letting them be part of your journey.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is keeping up with how quickly things change. There is always something new to learn, especially with updates to ICD-10-CM guidelines, coding changes, and compliance requirements. Finding time for continued education through webinars, chapter meetings, networking, and professional development can also be challenging. Like many working parents, I’m balancing a busy schedule with kids’ sports, dinner, home chores, dogs and most importantly, making quality time for my family. Finding that balance while continuing to grow professionally can be difficult, but it’s also an opportunity to stay curious, keep learning, and continue developing in a field that is constantly evolving.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is very important to me. I am a woman of faith which encourages me in moments of weakness. Continuing to be your own cheerleader and pushing through even when you think you can't give any more is key.
