Her Story
About Martha
I began my career as an industrial operations engineer, entering the telecoms technology industry in 1983. My journey took me through AT&T, which became Bell South, then to Northern Telecom (Nortel), a Canadian technology company, followed by Microsoft and WebPro on the services side. I co-founded Red Bison Advisory Group, an investment firm in Seattle that focused on technology investments between the U.S. and China. In 2021, I joined Grosa Capital, a private equity firm in Miami, Florida, where I serve as Senior Operating Partner. At Grosa Capital, I focus primarily on building the Axis Capital platform, which consists of interval funds with managers designed to democratize private equity investments for accredited investors. The firm operates across three pillars: ultra-luxury real estate, a sports and entertainment platform that promotes soccer, and Axis Capital for alternative investments. Beyond my operating role, I serve on three public company boards where I chair governance committees: Lumen Technologies (a technology service provider), Commvault Systems (a cybersecurity and cyber resilience company), and Sportsman's Warehouse (a sporting goods retail company). I am also an active member of the Council for Foreign Relations. My work today focuses heavily on governance, cybersecurity, and understanding the impact of artificial intelligence on our industries, particularly in technology.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say I'm purpose-driven and resilient. I'm an EQ kind of gal - my leadership tends to be more around emotional intelligence. I like to connect with people, and in that connection, it helps me understand what they're feeling, whether with customers or investors. I want to know what they're feeling. I want to feel what they're feeling. That for me is important. I'm decisive in the actions that I take. My family will tell you, and those that work with me will tell you that I shoot and then I aim. I do that on purpose. I don't want to waste time. I want to be able to, if I am decisive and I think we should do this, I will do that, and then I will readjust along the way. So I'm stubborn about that vision, but I'm very flexible when I'm executing on that vision. I think that has been very helpful in the things that I've done, being that decisive action. And I trust. I trust. I'm not on top of people - if I ask you to do something, I trust that you will do it.
