Ten minutes with Mary
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the support, mentorship, and guidance I have received from incredible women throughout my career. They taught me that it is okay to make mistakes, experience setbacks, and face challenges. What matters is having the resilience to get back up, reflect on those experiences, learn from them, and make the necessary adjustments to continue moving forward. Each challenge has provided an opportunity for growth and has shaped who I am professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to take chances and be willing to take leaps. Growth often requires stepping outside of your comfort zone, embracing new opportunities, and having the confidence to pursue paths that may initially feel uncertain.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the HR field is to not be afraid to speak up. Your perspective, ideas, and experiences matter. Advocate for yourself, ask questions, and use your voice to contribute to meaningful conversations and positive change within your organization.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the HR field today is navigating an increasingly competitive environment and understanding how to continue evolving professionally. As I re-enter the market, I am focused on identifying the skills I want to strengthen, the areas where I can make the greatest impact, and the next milestones that will contribute to my continued career growth. Each step brings new opportunities for learning, development, and discovering the next important moment in my professional journey.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
One of the most important values for me is maintaining balance between my personal life and my career. It can be challenging not to bring work home, especially when responsibilities and challenges feel ongoing. I have learned the importance of creating boundaries and recognizing that some problems can be addressed the next day. I value being present with my family and focusing on myself outside of work, while also returning each day prepared and focused to give my best professionally.
