About Mary

Mary DuMont is a licensed real estate agent and Realtor with Lamacchia Realty, Inc., based in the Greater Boston area. After spending 24 years in the technology and cybersecurity industries, she transitioned into real estate to pursue her passion for helping people navigate one of life's most important decisions: buying or selling a home. She earned her education in Communications and English from the University of New Hampshire and began her professional career in technology in 2002, starting in inside lead generation before advancing into customer success and account management. Throughout her career, she worked with organizations including IBM, Ping Identity, and Carbon Black, developing extensive experience in client relationship management, strategic account management, customer advocacy, and complex negotiations.

During her time at Carbon Black, Mary spent approximately eight years as a Senior Customer Success Manager, supporting major clients, including Fortune 500 companies, and helping drive customer satisfaction, adoption, and renewals. Her professional achievements include being named Customer Success Manager of the Year in 2017, receiving President's Club recognition twice, and earning the Customer Health Hero Award in 2022. She later served as a Senior Renewal Account Manager at Rapid7, further strengthening her experience in customer retention and account management. Today, Mary brings these transferable skills to her real estate career, helping buyers and sellers navigate the purchasing and selling process, understand market conditions, and negotiate offers with confidence. She is also focused on building strong professional relationships with attorneys, mortgage brokers, and other industry professionals to provide clients with a collaborative and informed experience.

Beyond real estate, Mary is a comprehensively trained and Certified Reformer Pilates Instructor at Club Pilates, with training across various Pilates apparatus, including the reformer, Cadillac, and spine corrector. She enjoys teaching and practicing Pilates and playing golf in her spare time. Her career transition reflects her belief that professional growth and new opportunities are possible at any stage of life. Drawing on her years of experience in technology, cybersecurity, client relationships, and negotiations, Mary is excited to build her real estate career while continuing to develop meaningful connections and help clients find their next home.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mary

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the experience, relationships, and skills I have developed throughout my 24-year career in technology and cybersecurity. Spending approximately 15 years in senior customer success management at Carbon Black allowed me to build strong client relationships, manage complex accounts, navigate negotiations, and consistently focus on customer satisfaction. Working with Fortune 500 companies also strengthened my ability to understand client needs and deliver meaningful results.

Some of my proudest professional achievements include being named Customer Success Manager of the Year in 2017 and receiving the Customer Health Hero Award in 2022, along with earning President's Club recognition twice. These experiences have given me a strong foundation as I transition into real estate. I am passionate about bringing my relationship-building, negotiation, and client advocacy skills into my new career while continuing to learn and grow.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is that I have the ability to change careers and define my own life. My transition from technology and cybersecurity into real estate has reinforced the importance of being open to new opportunities and having the confidence to pursue a different direction.

I have also been fortunate to have three inspiring female managers who served as mentors throughout my technology career: Teresa Colarusso and Adele Bonnevier at IBM, and Jennifer Palmer at Carbon Black. Their guidance and leadership positively influenced my professional development and showed me the importance of strong mentorship, continuous learning, and believing in my abilities.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women is to remember that you can build the career and life you truly want. You are never limited to one professional path, and you have the ability to change directions at any point in your career.

Do not be afraid to explore new opportunities, develop different skills, and take chances on yourself. My own transition from a 24-year career in technology and cybersecurity into real estate has shown me that professional growth can happen at any stage. With determination, confidence, and a willingness to learn, you can achieve success in any field you choose.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As someone who has recently transitioned into real estate, I am still learning the industry's challenges and opportunities firsthand. One of my current priorities is establishing relationships and building a strong professional network with attorneys, mortgage brokers, and other professionals involved in real estate transactions.

I see an opportunity to apply the relationship-building and strategic account management skills I developed in technology to real estate. My previous experience working with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders has taught me the importance of collaboration, communication, and understanding different client needs. I look forward to applying those strengths while continuing to learn about the Boston real estate market.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being able to share my professional journey and experiences is important to me. I value personal growth, continuous learning, meaningful relationships, and the confidence to pursue new opportunities. My transition from technology and cybersecurity into real estate reflects my belief that it is never too late to redefine your career and pursue something you are passionate about.

I also value maintaining a balance between my professional and personal interests. Outside of real estate, I enjoy teaching and practicing Pilates, as well as playing golf. These activities allow me to continue developing myself while enjoying the things that bring me fulfillment.
