What do you attribute your success to?

Mary is an incredibly enthusiastic, passionate, well spoken, driven woman who is inspirational in her career growth, expansion and her plans for the future. Mary tributes a lot of her success to the way that she was brought up in life. Her family was quite large as she has one of eight children and her mother and father shared with them a lot of love and from an early age were taught about hard work and dedication. Her first job was Dairy Queen, because the 2nd you were able to work that's what you did. She is extremely social and loves to talk to everybody she meets, she says she's never met a stranger. She's opinionated and loves to put in her $0.02 and she's not afraid to put herself out there and use her voice, which is something she attributes her success to appears she tells her clients if you have children this is a great area to live in, if this is what you're looking for I will find it, she really listens well and goes the extra mile to discover more about them and build that relationship so that she can truly make what is one of the largest purchases they'll ever make something special and perfectly customized to fit them and their lives.

Mary discussed her career journey with Leah from Influential Women Magazine, explaining that she entered the real estate field in 2018 after selling her accounting business and metal fabrication company, Riddle Metalworks, which she owned with her husband for 20 years. Mary shared that she decided to pursue real estate after advice from her sister and completed her real estate license requirements in about 3 weeks before becoming a broker in 2020. The conversation was cut off as Leah was about to ask about Mary's current career status.

Leah interviewed someone about their real estate career, where they described working from home with two offices and managing agents who have access codes. The person explained their daily activities include making phone calls, searching for people, and handling relocations, particularly in Texas areas like Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin. They shared their career progression from buying leads in Terrell to working as a broker for a national brokerage managing 60 agents, before eventually opening their own brokerage after deciding they preferred selling real estate directly rather than managing other agents.

Leah interviewed an agent about their future plans and personal life. The agent, who is 63-64 years old, expressed no desire to retire and plans to continue working as long as possible due to enjoying the job and staying healthy. The agent shared that they are active in their church, enjoy spending time with their grandchildren, and have a talent for meeting people and making sales, including a recent $1.2 million property deal.

Leah interviewed a real estate agent about their career journey and advice for young women entering the field. The agent emphasized the importance of putting oneself out there, building strong negotiation skills, and learning everything possible about clients' needs. They attributed their success to their upbringing in a large family where everyone worked from a young age and their natural tendency to be talkative and opinionated.

Leah asked Mary to share about people who had supported or inspired her, suggesting they could be highlighted in a publication. Mary mentioned Kathy Harris, a mentor at Coal Banker, and her family of strong women, including four sisters. She also expressed admiration for strong women in real estate who are assertive and committed to doing things right.

Mary is extremely dedicated to her career and absolutely loves the rewards of being able to provide people with their dream homes, and being a part of that personal and special part of their life is incredibly fulfilling. She has no plans to retire anytime soon, is looking forward to continuing to provide exemplary service and her expertise to future clients and assisting in guidance for other future real estate agents through possible mentorship as her career continues to thrive and the next chapter of her beautiful journey is written.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice Mary would share with young women readers who are looking to go into the real estate industry is not to be afraid of putting themselves out there because this job is pure personality. Anybody can get set up on a search engine or an MLS but when you get in front of people face to face and being able to be present for your clients and build that rapport and relationship especially when working with 1st time buyers is something that is so rewarding and valuable. She loves how hungry new homeowners are for information and wanting to know everything, she wants them to know everything as well they she wants them to learn from the experience and feel comfortable. So learn everything you can, take the classes and courses and make sure that you are confident in what you're bringing to the table and that you're expanding your own knowledge and area of expertise. Mary loves women that are go getters, women who are able to pivot and innovate and if you're more comfortable sitting in an office and answering phones by all means do what you're passionate about but if you want to get out there and be successful as a real estate agent make sure you have the time to connect with your clients, be present, use your voice, and build that network and those relationships because often times word of mouth in your reputation will proceed you.
