Her Story
About Mary
Mary L. Lanier is the founder of Less 2 Blessed, a holistic health and lifestyle coaching practice based in Fishers, Indiana. Through her work, Mary partners with individuals to help them recognize their worth, align with their purpose, and create a life transformed from less to blessed. Her approach is rooted in authenticity, faith, family, and balance, reflecting her belief that meaningful growth begins with understanding who you are, embracing your journey, and becoming the best version of yourself.
After transitioning from her previous career, Mary began pursuing her passion for health and wellness and is now building her private coaching practice. She is a certified life coach and is currently completing her health certification. Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in African American and African Diaspora Studies from Indiana University Bloomington in 2006 and an MBA with a specialization in Applied Management from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2012.
Mary attributes her success first and foremost to God, whose grace and mercy have guided her throughout her life. She is especially grateful for the example and sacrifices of her mother, who raised her as a single mom and worked to create opportunities and clear a path for her future. Her mother’s faith became a foundation that continues to guide Mary today.
Mary’s personal philosophy is shaped by her commitment to walking in faith, being obedient to the purpose she feels called toward, and trusting the process even when the path ahead is not clear. She also believes strongly in staying in your own lane and viewing yourself as your biggest competition. Rather than comparing her journey to others, she focuses on personal growth, continuous learning, and becoming a better version of herself.
Mary is passionate about encouraging others, particularly women, to embrace their authentic voices, build confidence, recognize their inherent worth, and remain committed to lifelong growth. Outside of coaching, writing is one of her greatest passions. She enjoys reflecting on her personal journey through writing, with some of her experiences becoming blog posts. She also enjoys reading, completing puzzles, and occasionally unwinding with her favorite television series.
Faith and service are also important parts of Mary’s life. She has been involved with ministries at her church and values opportunities to encourage and support her community. In 2026, she was selected to be featured in the Influential Women program representing Indiana.
Above all, Mary strives to live and work according to the values that matter most to her: faith, family, balance, authenticity, and purpose. Through Less 2 Blessed and her personal journey, she hopes to remind others that where you begin does not determine where you can go and that every person has inherent worth, a unique purpose, and the potential to live a more purposeful and blessed life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Mary
01What do you attribute your success to?
First and foremost, to God and to the grace and mercy He has shown me throughout my life. I am especially grateful to my mother, who raised me as a single mom and worked tirelessly to ensure my path was clear and that I had access to opportunities, despite the challenges she faced. She instilled her faith in me, and that foundation continues to guide me today. Through my journey, I am learning the importance of saying yes, remaining obedient, and trusting the process, even when I cannot see the full picture. I believe that every experience has helped prepare me for where I am today, and I am committed to continuing to walk in faith as I step into my purpose.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I am my biggest competition. I try not to focus on what is happening in the lanes beside me or look too far ahead or behind. Instead, I focus on staying in my own lane, continuing to grow, and becoming a better version of myself. For me, success is not about comparing my journey to someone else’s. It is about consistently challenging myself, learning from my experiences, and measuring my progress against who I was yesterday. I believe the most meaningful competition is the one with yourself, and the goal is to keep moving forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Embrace your authentic self. The people who are meant to connect with you, partner with you, and hear your message will recognize your voice. The coaching industry can feel saturated and overwhelming, but I believe it is important to trust that the right people will connect with what you uniquely have to offer. Show up authentically, build your confidence, stay committed to learning, and never stop growing.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Coaching is a saturated and increasingly popular market, so one of the biggest challenges is defining your niche, finding effective ways to market yourself, and staying accessible to the people you want to serve. At the same time, I see significant opportunities to offer specialized support to people with specific needs.
For example, I am pursuing a menopause certification, an area that is personally meaningful to me and where I see an opportunity to provide valuable support. As market needs continue to evolve, I believe that continuing my education and expanding my knowledge and certifications will help me remain relevant, grow as a coach, and provide value in new and meaningful ways.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are faith, family, and balance. These three values guide how I approach both my personal life and my work and help me remain grounded in what matters most.
