About Mary Maille
She is a distinguished intellectual property consultant and former patent examiner with over a decade of experience at the USPTO, where she served as a Patent Examiner in Technology Center 1600, Art Unit 1645, specializing in microbiology, molecular biology, and disease ecology. During her 14-year tenure, she received the Exceptional Career Achievement Award in 2024 and a Bronze Medal in 2018. She currently serves as an Intellectual Property Consultant at SeaLyons LLC. Prior to her USPTO career, she conducted postdoctoral research at Old Dominion University, spearheading multi-institutional grant writing and publishing research on aquatic microbial ecology. She also served as a Visiting Scientist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, designing science curriculum, and as Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a Ph.D. and is recognized as a meticulous, knowledgeable, and versatile professional who combines deep scientific expertise with intellectual property law to help clients protect and advance their innovations.
