Her Story

About Mary

Mary Moore is a distinguished ministry, community development, and health and wellness leader who has served as an Associate Minister at Mount Tabor African Methodist Episcopal Church since 1992. Her journey began academically as a mathematics major with a minor in science, and her evolving interests ultimately led her into ministry, where she has remained committed to serving others, pursuing continued education, and embracing new areas of learning. Throughout her career, Moore has viewed each new assignment as an opportunity to grow, expand her knowledge, and use her gifts in meaningful ways. Her ministry is grounded in faith, compassion, service, and a desire to help individuals live healthier and more purposeful lives.

Beyond ministry, Moore is passionate about health and wellness education, particularly helping women better understand microbiome and gut health, holistic wellness, emotional well-being, and preventive self-care. She believes women often devote themselves to caring for others while neglecting their own health and hopes to create a broader platform through which women can access trustworthy information and become more proactive about their well-being. She draws from both scientific research and Scripture in her approach and continually studies resources from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, PubMed, the World Health Organization, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Moore is especially interested in helping people recognize the factors that influence emotional and physical health, including stress and other negative emotional patterns, while encouraging a more holistic approach to daily living.

Moore has also demonstrated her commitment to community impact through affordable housing and nonprofit leadership. During her ministry tenure, she and another woman served as owner-developers of a $14 million, state-of-the-art affordable housing development for 56 seniors in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following the completion of the 15-year tax credit period, her nonprofit is in the process of assuming ownership from the investors while continuing to oversee the needs of the residents and future capital improvements. She is affiliated with Women and Ministry of the First Episcopal African Methodist Episcopal Church, the LifeVantage Activation Company Holistic Women Warriors Team, the International Community Awareness Network, and International Community Health and Wellness LLC. An avid reader, lifelong learner, and world traveler, Moore has visited destinations across Hawaii, Turkey, Israel, Greece, and Africa and has participated in international community-building experiences involving people from more than 50 countries. She encourages others, especially women, to remain determined and consistent, embrace continued personal growth, and recognize that changing interests and evolving passions can lead to new and meaningful paths in life.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mary

01What do you attribute your success to?

A parent that nurtured and guided me. Gave me a faith to live by. Gave me good character, moral, ethical standards. Not to do wrong to someone because they did wrong to you, to not harbor unforgiveness. To try and live fair with everyone. Just to be a decent human being in the world and respect other human beings regardless of race, culture, gender, or ethical ethnicity.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

There's no such thing as failure. The man that discovered electricity, he did it thousands of times... you just keep being determined and consistent. So whatever your skills are, cause they change, you develop. You learn more, just to stay with whatever it is that your task is. And if that's not what works for you. Then maybe that wasn't the task. So, don't beat yourself up. Or be hard on yourself. Or feel that, you're a failure. Because we change. And, our interest changed, our passion changed.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Having people be receptive to knowledge that they haven't heard before. And, really trusting. We are usually comfortable with what we already know and are aware of. Being born and reared in Birmingham, Alabama, from a mother who had 10 pregnancies and 12 kids because we had two sets of twins. I learned how to be a leader and a follower. But that's not true of everybody. I'm conscious of that, so I'm aware that there are challenges in sharing new information.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Say what you mean and do what you say you're gonna do. People don't respect other people's time. If you don't have the time, great, if something is going on in your life, and it's not a good time for you. Life is always lifing. Don't have me chasing you, and you're dodging me, when all you can say is, I'm dealing with a few challenges, I'll contact you later. And then do it, or say, this is not a good time.
