What do you attribute your success to?
I feel most successful when I get a new referral by word of mouth from someone who specifically recommended me. To me, that gives me a sense of value - that I made a mark in the other person's career, life, or anything. Making an impact with people, whether it's at work or in the community, and leaving a footprint of just helping people grow - when I see the fruit of that, that really fulfills me. I live by the quote that people will forget what you said or what you did, but they won't forget how you made them feel.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say first, trust yourself in regards to aligning what you do with what you're passionate about, because we spend a lot of our time at work, and to me it's crucial that you love what you do. If it's an industry that you're not too familiar with, just show up, put yourself out there, and look for networking events - maybe a paralegal networking event if that's where you want to go. Insert yourself, meet people, and figure out what are the best ways to succeed. Learn from people who have done the wrong things to get on the right path and try to help you skip those mistakes and fast track your way in there.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Time management is crucial to me because it allows me to manage what I'm going to do on what day and with who. I also believe in not being afraid to delegate when you're in leadership and you have that opportunity, because a woman is strong but can only do so much in 8 hours a day. On a personal level, I anchor myself by staying plugged into the community through volunteer work - it's the way that I personally stay home and stay true to the beginnings of me. I believe that people will forget what you said or what you did, but they won't forget how you made them feel.
