Her Story

About MARY

I have been in textile design for about 11 years now. I work at Enchante Accessories making products sold at TJ Maxx like homewares, specifically focusing on decorative pillows, table linens, and kitchen towels in the soft home category. I started as a senior designer and was promoted to design director almost a year ago. I attended Philadelphia University, formerly the College of Textiles and Sciences, where I majored in textile design with a focus on print and pattern. My advisor Marsha Weiss was a huge mentor who helped me throughout school, with my study abroad in Scotland, and landing my first job in New York City. I am proud of achieving the design director role at a young age through dedication and building connections.

Ten minutes with MARY

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from attending Philadelphia University which provided specialized hands-on experience with looms and fabrics, combined with my genuine love of design that keeps me creating even outside of work.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be loud, be seen, and be opinionated, especially for women. Take hurdles as a learning opportunity, so difficult bosses or clients not getting the job that you wanted, it's all an experience, and things happen for a reason.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the political climate with tariffs affecting costs from factories in India and China, along with wars impacting cost of goods. On the opportunity side, using AI in morally sound ways like creating mock-ups for customers to visualize designs on products without cutting corners on original artwork.
