About Mary
Mary Tucker is a behavioral health and human services professional specializing in social work. She holds a bachelor's degree in social work and is currently pursuing a master's degree. With two years of professional experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor, she previously spent 18 years in management at Home Depot while completing her undergraduate studies. Tucker is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and brings extensive supervisory experience from her earlier career. Her path into substance abuse counseling was shaped by a desire to help others facing similar challenges, and she plans to open her own practice in the future.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just to keep pushing, self-care, making sure that you take care of yourself, because it takes a lot out of you. So you just gotta make sure you practice self-care in addition to taking care of the people that you're taking care of on a daily basis.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Just having enough people that want to work in the field. There's so many opportunities, and yet so many people didn't need that I don't think that there's enough people. My caseload is 110 people. We're supposed to have 8 counselors, and we only have 4.
