About Maryam
Maryam Zaky is a retail management and interior design professional with almost 10 years of experience in store management, sales, customer experience, leadership, and design services. She currently serves as General Manager at the Pottery Barn store in Southlake, Texas, a role she has held for around five years. Prior to this, she progressed through multiple store management roles at Pottery Barn and Kirkland's Home. Maryam holds a bachelor's degree in interior design and furniture, which aligns with her passion for home decor and furniture retail. She has also earned certificates in project management and business-to-business. In her role, she oversees daily operations including design services, team training, and reaching customers beyond the store walls while navigating uncontrollable factors such as traffic, weather, and events. Maryam values leaving a positive mark on her team and emphasizes that results do not define one's leadership in the up-and-down nature of retail.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The results don't define you as a leader. In retail it's always up and down so don't let any bad outcome reflect on you personally. As long as you're doing your best just keep going.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is uncontrollable factors like traffic, weather, politics, events that affect business. Can't just watch the door; must reach out to customers outside the four walls and plan ahead to find opportunities.
