MaryEllen Durante is the founder of Your Sacred Balance, an LLC she recently formed to combine her expertise in massage therapy with spiritual guidance. With over 20 years in massage therapy and a prior 30-year career in music performance, she draws on extensive life experience to support clients. She earned a master's degree in education and a doctorate in religious education from Fordham University, and has held positions teaching theology at a high school in Austin, Texas, and serving as director of religious education in Florida. Durante is currently developing her business plan with a mentor from SCORE and aims to franchise her approach to help others discover purpose and spiritual connection. Her diverse background also includes historic music programming, period costuming, dramatic readings, and producing radio shows distributed on national public radio.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be logical, do the background work, do your research, be practical and logical, but at the same time have a great sense of your own self-worth. I really struggled with that, and sometimes we don't seem to have our own personal identity. We get lost in the work we're doing, but we don't really realize that this is who we are. This is our identity. And to take the time to appreciate your sense of self-worth.
