Her Story

About Marzia

I am a computer science student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where I am pursuing my bachelor's degree in computer science. While I am still in college, I work part-time as a teaching assistant during the semester, helping other students navigate their coursework and develop their technical skills. I am actively involved in the Center of Women in Technology (CWIT) at my college, participating in this organization that supports and empowers women in the tech field. As an international student, I understand firsthand the challenges of breaking into the tech industry, particularly in finding internships and job opportunities in today's highly concentrated and competitive market. Despite these obstacles, I remain dedicated to building my expertise and making my mark in computer science and technology.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I will say, personally, as an international student, just trying to find internships or jobs is pretty tough, especially since tech nowadays is so concentrated. Trying to find opportunities is pretty hard as someone just starting off. The market is highly competitive, and breaking into the industry presents significant challenges for those of us who are new to the field and navigating additional barriers as international students.
