What do you attribute your success to?
Working with women in my family who changed my life. Showing strength that was shown to me during struggles with our clients and family. Compassion for others warms my heart. Growing up in in a family business of Elderly Residential/Hospice care I connected very early in life to responsibilities. My late aunt Mary Martinez raised me in her Boarding Care business. I was always right by her side and felt as strong as she was. I have cared for Dementia, Cancer, Hospice, Paraplegic and Mentally Challenged individuals. Every one of them has changed my life and attributes to my success.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything".
Growing up in Caregiving with my maternal family and Transportation / Logistics with my paternal family I was told that three industries will never cease.
One Elderly Caregiving because everyone ages.
Two Transportation because everything gets transported. Three Insurance companies because we all need insurance.
You will always find me in these three industries.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do what nobody else will do. Work when nobody else will. Smile when everyone else is struggling and love the person your caring for as your own family.
No matter what industry we are in honesty about our life experiences can sometimes weigh us down if not lift us up. I have had some trials in life that even right now can hinder my growth if I allow it to. But because I have life experiences that have shown me how to do the next best thing I'm successful today.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Getting hired on recently is great. I have had a strong career in Caregiving/Travel and Transportation. But in every caregiver position hour's and scheduling is always stressful. But once you find the connection with a client hour's and scheduling are exceptional.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I believe my experience , my professionalism and my education got me to where I am today. It's not so much of my recent life that makes me stand out as an influential woman. It's HOW I keep my strength in my career life today no matter what I am faced with.
I think personal experience, failure and challenges can be overcome by creating daily goals and long term goals.
