San Marcus, TX 78666

Matty Salinas is an experienced Executive Administrative Assistant and PEIMS professional with over 20 years of service in public education. She began her career in education two decades ago as an attendance clerk at La Vernia ISD while her children were in school, where she discovered a strong interest in data entry, student records, and school operations. That early experience sparked a lasting passion for educational systems, data accuracy, and the role that strong administrative processes play in supporting student success.

She later advanced to Randolph Field ISD, serving as the Superintendent’s Secretary and District PEIMS Coordinator. In this role, she worked closely with district leadership and received extensive professional development opportunities under the guidance of Mr. Lance Johnson, allowing her to grow in leadership, compliance, and district-level operations. Over the past 15 years, Matty has specialized in PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System), overseeing critical data verification and reporting processes submitted to the Texas Education Agency. She has developed deep expertise in ensuring data integrity, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining compliance in a system that is continuously evolving based on state requirements.

Matty is passionate about the impact of her work, recognizing that accurate PEIMS reporting directly supports district funding and the expansion of student programs. She has also gained valuable insight into the business and human resources functions of school districts, broadening her understanding of how various departments are funded and interconnected. Currently in her first year with Wimberley ISD, she continues to build on her extensive experience with a long-term goal of transitioning into a regional service center, TEA, or TASBO role, where she hopes to serve as a PEIMS consultant supporting districts across the state.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I just never gave up on myself, you know? I made sure that my children were taken care of. I made sure that they got an education. I made sure that they had the basic things that a mother needs to do, and I've always been there for my kids. I just never gave up on myself. But one day I woke up and they're grown, they've got their own lives, and I didn't want to be at my deathbed, regretting not doing something for myself. The challenge just gives me motivation to keep going and keep learning. I've just been doing it so long, I know that getting that data sent in clean to the state is funding for our district, and I want to get as much funding as we can because it means we get more programs for our students. Validating the data is important, and knowing that I have to do different tasks, the challenge just gives me motivation to keep going and keep learning.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just to be very patient, because what you see is not always what you get. You know, whenever validating data, you can see that everything is correct on the student information system, and once you validate it up to go to the state, or the TSDS side, it'll find errors that it doesn't like, because the state doesn't want to see the data that way. They want to make sure that we're coding everything correctly. You're not trying to cheat it to get more funding. So be patient and be adaptable with the different systems.
