Her Story

About Maureen

I've been in health tech for about 4 years and currently serve as a Senior Account Executive and Team Lead, a position I've held for 7 months. Previously, I was an account executive. In my current role, I handle a lot of our go-to-market function, cross-team collaboration, our AI initiatives, and full cycle sales. I sell what's called an ICHRA, which is a benefit program that employers can use for cost savings and also to give their employees choice of coverage. What inspired me to get into this field is the relationship building that I have with my clients and my book of business. I think the product that I'm supporting can make a meaningful change in how cost is seen in the healthcare insurance space, so I'm hoping to help with how health insurance has just ballooned out of control when it comes to cost. My most notable professional achievement is probably the AI initiatives that I've been leading for the company. I was an athlete on the D1 NCAA women's bowling team, with a highest score of 290, and I use that a lot in how I motivate my team and also how I stay motivated and driven as well, like my focus.

Ten minutes with Maureen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I definitely attribute my success to the mentors that I've had in the past, including Michael Surkein, Ben Light, and Jeff Kirchick. My personal experience with how health insurance has impacted my family and my finances has also been a driving force. I come from a consultative point of view, making sure that everyone understands the product that I do serve, and who it benefits, and more importantly, who it does not benefit. This honest, transparent approach has been key to my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

This is going to sound silly, but it's a quote from Lightning McQueen from Cars. When they're asking him how he can do all these things that are so incredible, he just says, 'I never thought that I couldn't.' I've taken that with me throughout my career. It's about not limiting yourself and believing that you can achieve things without letting doubt hold you back.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It's hard, but it's fun. It's definitely worth the wins, for sure. I am in sales, which is typically a male-dominated field, but don't let that discourage you. The challenges you'll face are worth it when you achieve your goals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The product that I support is seen as almost like a disruptor of status quo, so there's some people that don't believe in rocking the boat too much. I am in sales, so that is typically a male-dominated field. Change is hard, and that's one of the things that I try to help people understand, is that it doesn't have to be always scary. The biggest challenge is helping people overcome their fear of change and see the opportunities that disruption can bring.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and integrity are the most important values to me in both my work and personal life. These principles guide how I approach my clients and my business, making sure I'm transparent about who my product benefits and who it does not benefit. I believe in being straightforward and maintaining high ethical standards in everything I do.
