Ten minutes with Mavis
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my faith, a combination of hard work and continuous learning. I’ve been fortunate to work with teams and leaders who challenged me, believed in my potential, and helped me grow. Every opportunity I’ve had came with lessons—some easy, some tough—and I’ve tried to approach each one with curiosity, humility, and gratitude. I don’t see success as something I achieved alone. It’s the outcome of collaboration, trust, and persistence. I simply try to show up every day willing to learn, willing to serve, and willing to get better than I was the day before.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most meaningful pieces of career advice I’ve received is to stay curious and never stop learning. I was told early on that growth doesn’t come from knowing all the answers, it comes from asking better questions, seeking feedback, and being willing to stretch beyond what feels comfortable. That mindset has shaped how I work, how I lead, and how I pursue new opportunities.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the IT industry is to believe in yourself and the value you bring. There have been moments in my career when I doubted myself or let someone else’s perception of me doubt whether I could do the job, but every challenge showed me just how capable I am. Speak up even when your voice shakes, and never shrink yourself to fit someone else’s expectations. Find a mentor who will lift you up and surround yourself with people who believes in your potential.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
As a Sr. Strategic Transactions Analyst in the IT M&A industry, one of the biggest challenges is navigating the complexity and urgency that come with every deal. You’re constantly balancing limited information, tight timelines, and high expectations while assessing technology landscapes that can vary widely from one organization to another. It requires sharp analytical thinking, cross-functional coordination, and the ability to make sound recommendations amid ambiguity. But those same challenges create incredible opportunities. You get a front‑row seat to major strategic decisions, influence the direction of the business, and help shape how organizations evolve through integration, modernization, and innovation. Every transaction becomes a chance to learn, stretch your capabilities, and make a real impact on how technology drives value across the enterprise.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me at work and in life are integrity, compassion, and growth. I try to show up with honesty, treat people with kindness, and embrace every challenge as a chance to become better. These principles keep me grounded and help me build meaningful relationships wherever I go.
