Her Story

About Mavis

Mavis Sackey is an ordained pastor, ministry leader, entrepreneur, and experienced business professional with more than two decades of experience in the payments industry and extensive expertise in sales and leadership. She spent 23 years in the payments sector, including eight years in a directorial sales role, before transitioning her focus toward pastoral ministry and missionary work. Mavis also studied Business Administration for two years and completed theological training, combining her business knowledge with her commitment to faith-based service and community leadership.

For the past 11 years, Mavis has served as an ordained pastor through both ministry and nonprofit work, where she is dedicated to discipling women and helping those who have experienced abuse and trauma rebuild their lives, develop self-awareness, and step confidently into leadership. Through Above The Call Ministries, she extends this mission locally and internationally, advocating for women's empowerment and helping young girls globally achieve sanitary dignity. She also manages a restaurant that helps fund her missionary efforts, overseeing staffing, inventory, administration, and serving as the primary chef. Her entrepreneurial and ministry work reflects her ability to combine leadership, service, and practical business management to create meaningful impact.

Mavis attributes her success to her faith in God, reverence for Him, and willingness to learn from her mistakes and allow God to restore areas of her life that have been broken. She has navigated the challenges of working in male-dominated environments and overcoming misconceptions about her background, including being a twice-divorced woman serving in a pastoral role. These experiences have strengthened her resilience and determination to demonstrate that her background does not define her ability or calling. Mavis values honesty, loyalty, integrity, compassion, understanding, and faith, and she encourages young women to hold their heads high, remain focused, refuse to limit themselves, and continue pursuing their goals. She believes that anything worth having is worth fighting for and that reaching one accomplishment should inspire continued growth rather than mark the end of the journey.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mavis

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith in God, a strong reverence for Him, and the willingness to learn from my experiences and mistakes. Throughout my journey, I have embraced challenges as opportunities for growth, allowing me to recognize areas where I needed healing and improvement. My faith has given me the strength to rebuild, persevere, and move forward with purpose, trusting that every experience contributes to a greater plan and that, in time, God makes all things beautiful.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the industry to hold their heads high, stay focused, and remain confident in their abilities. Anything worth achieving requires perseverance, dedication, and the courage to keep fighting through challenges. Do not limit yourself or allow setbacks to define what you believe is possible. Continue learning, growing, and pursuing new opportunities, even after reaching a milestone, because success is not a destination but an ongoing journey of growth and achievement.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I have faced is navigating a male-dominated field while also overcoming misconceptions associated with being a divorcee in a pastoral role. I have often had to prove that I belong in the room, regardless of my background or personal journey. These experiences have strengthened my resilience, confidence, and determination, while reminding me of the importance of staying true to who I am and the purpose I am called to fulfill.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, loyalty, integrity, compassion, understanding, and faith. I believe in being honest with myself, remaining loyal to the people and relationships entrusted to me, and treating others with compassion and understanding. I strive to lead and live with integrity while maintaining a strong belief in God, trusting that faith, authenticity, and genuine relationships provide a meaningful foundation for both personal and professional growth.
