About May
May Chahwan is a mechanical engineer with five years of experience, also specializing in substation design engineering. She currently works at ECF, having recently started in her role there after serving as a contractor for a renewable energy company focused on solar and substation projects. May earned her associates degree followed by a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering after initially majoring in fashion design and marketing and switching paths due to her interest in math and physics. She has noted the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated industry and attributes her success to overcoming difficulties from being born and raised in Lebanon before moving to the United States at a young age.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Being born and raised overseas in Lebanon and coming to the United States at a young age made life very different and difficult. Going through those hard times growing up taught me that things are going to be hard and it's up to you to figure everything out. When things fail, you just gotta get up and keep going.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Life is hard and it's gonna throw things at you, but you need to be strong and go through all the obstacles till you get what you want in life.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Trust and communication are the most important things.
