About Maya
Maya Jenkins is a healthcare ambassador, community health advocate, entrepreneur, and special needs advocate dedicated to expanding access to affordable healthcare solutions for individuals, families, and businesses across the United States. As an Ambassador with ConnectMD, she helps enroll members in telehealth programs that provide 24/7 access to board-certified clinicians, discounted in-person healthcare services, and prescription benefits designed to complement traditional insurance. Drawing on more than a decade of experience as a medical assistant, she combines her healthcare knowledge with a genuine passion for empowering communities to take a proactive approach to long-term health and wellness.
Jenkins' career has been shaped by both professional experience and personal purpose. As a single mother of three sons, including a child with Down syndrome, she was inspired to advocate for special needs families, mothers, and women of color by helping them connect with valuable healthcare resources and support services. Prior to entering healthcare leadership, she pursued jazz piano performance at New York University and built a successful career as a professional tap dancer, performing alongside renowned artist Savion Glover and appearing at prestigious international events. She later earned an Associate's Degree in Social Work and a Medical Assistant Certificate from Seattle Central College and is continuing her education through a bachelor's program before pursuing a Master of Social Work at the University of Washington.
Committed to lifelong learning and servant leadership, Jenkins believes meaningful success comes from faith, mentorship, perseverance, and surrounding herself with people who inspire growth. Beyond promoting affordable healthcare, she is passionate about advocating for underserved communities, expanding access to essential services, and mentoring others to pursue their goals with confidence. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first and foremost to God, whose guidance has placed me in the right opportunities throughout different seasons of my life. I am also deeply grateful for the mentors who have invested in my personal and professional growth. By surrounding myself with like-minded people, learning from their example, and remaining open to their daily encouragement and wisdom, I have continued to grow while staying focused on serving others.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to be intentional about the people I surround myself with. I believe we become like those we spend the most time with, so I strive to learn from individuals I admire, model their positive habits, and continually seek mentors who challenge me to grow both personally and professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to take the pressure off themselves and understand that they do not need to know everything before getting started. Show up consistently, be present, and give yourself grace as you learn and grow. Keep moving forward even on the difficult days, because perseverance is what truly sets people apart. Most importantly, prioritize self-care so you can continue serving others from a place of strength and purpose.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges is the lack of financial and business education, which often prevents people from fully understanding available opportunities and making informed decisions. Balancing family responsibilities while building a business can also be demanding. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities in expanding access to affordable healthcare through telehealth services, particularly for underserved populations, including individuals without Social Security numbers and families affected by reductions in healthcare benefits. I believe entrepreneurs have the ability to create meaningful solutions that improve lives while addressing these growing needs.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide my life are faith, empathy, community service, advocacy, education, and mentorship. I am passionate about helping individuals and families access the resources they need, supporting underserved communities, and encouraging others to reach their full potential through compassion, service, and lifelong learning.
