About Maya

I studied neuroscience and psychology at Pitzer College for my undergraduate degree. I toyed around with the idea of getting a graduate degree in a number of things, but I was hired right out of my bachelor's to work at a company called Simple Practice. I started there and kind of got swept up in this business world - it was never something that I actively sought out. My background and my passion was always in mental health and understanding human behavior and why we do the things we do. Weirdly, that fits very nicely into business, actually, understanding the psychology and motivations and desires and drives of our audience and our customers. I had pretty rapid professional growth at Simple Practice, being exposed to all of these different skills and tools and opportunities, and I realized I really do love the business side of things, which I didn't anticipate. My dad is a businessman, and my mom is a psychologist, and I've kind of landed in a space where I'm bridging both of these things. I've thought about going back to grad school, but it hasn't been necessary - I've been able to find roles that I'm deeply passionate about and still scratch that itch of supporting behavioral health professionals and healthcare professionals in a different way. My current job came about through a mixture of good luck and good timing - the CEO of DoxyMe reached out to me on LinkedIn, and it was about a year and a half of me in conversations with this company, consulting for them, impressing the right people, and opportunities presented themselves.
