About Maygan

Maygan Zuniga is a dedicated educational leader and school counselor whose career has been defined by a passion for helping students succeed both academically and personally. As the Lead Counselor at Goddard Junior High in Midland ISD, she oversees the campus counseling program, providing guidance in social-emotional learning, academic planning, crisis intervention, and early career and post-secondary preparation for seventh- and eighth-grade students. With 14 years of experience in education, she has built a reputation for creating meaningful connections with students, fostering resilience, and helping young people navigate critical transitions in their educational journeys.

Before becoming a school counselor, Maygan served as an instructional coordinator for her district's secondary English department, where she mentored teachers, supported curriculum development, and promoted effective instructional practices across grades 6–12. She also spent four years teaching English to ESL and newcomer students at Midland High School, following many of her students through their high school years, and began her education career teaching kindergarten for five years. Prior to entering education, she accumulated more than a decade of experience in the healthcare field, working in patient access, medical assisting, billing and coding, and medical administration, experiences that strengthened her organizational skills, adaptability, and commitment to serving others.

Committed to lifelong learning, Maygan earned a Master of Education in School Counseling after previously completing a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, in addition to a bachelor's degree in Psychology and an associate degree in Education. She is an active member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), the Lone Star State School Counselor Association, and the Texas State Teachers Association. Recognized for her academic excellence through her induction into Kappa Delta Pi and graduating among the top students in her class, she attributes much of her success to the inspiration she draws from her son. Guided by a philosophy of listening, building community, and ensuring every student feels seen and valued, Maygan continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of the students and educators she serves.
