About McKenna
McKenna Bertrand is an accomplished admissions and leadership professional serving as Assistant Director of Admissions at Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Atlanta, Georgia. Since joining her previous school, South College, in 2023, she has progressed through several admissions roles, building expertise in student recruitment, team development, mentoring, and relationship-building. Her earlier experience includes leadership and operations positions with Via, C.H. Robinson, Alta Resources, and Splash Custom Pools & Spas. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, combining her communication skills with a strong passion for helping others. McKenna is driven by a genuine passion for working with people and changing lives. She enjoys serving as a guiding light for others, helping students and colleagues recognize their potential and succeed while striving to leave a lasting positive impression on everyone she meets. Her strengths in communication, creative writing, community involvement, social media, admissions, and team leadership allow her to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and build meaningful relationships. She also values personal growth and maintaining balance, recognizing the importance of creating a fulfilling life beyond her professional responsibilities. Outside of work, McKenna is an enthusiastic writer and reader with ambitions of eventually publishing two novels she has written. She enjoys reading multiple books at once, often alternating between audiobooks and hardcovers, and loves discovering new restaurants and exploring unfamiliar areas. She also enjoys swimming and making improvements to her home as she settles into her new space. At home, she shares her life with two female cats, ages 11 and 7. Through her career, creativity, and personal interests, McKenna continues to pursue a life centered on connection, growth, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my genuine love for working with people and building strong relationships. I enjoy connecting with colleagues, meeting new people, and finding common ground with my students to build trust and rapport. I also believe in being a positive and supportive team member, while offering constructive feedback when needed. My ability to connect with others, communicate effectively, and maintain a positive attitude has been key to my success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Stay confident, especially when coaching or delivering unfavorable news. Focus on guiding people in the right direction rather than just pointing out negatives. You know what is right and wrong.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Keep pushing forward because the hard work and dedication will pay off. You have to find passion in your day to day or you'll burn out. Create a good balance for yourself so you can push forward while maintaining peace and happiness. Connect with leadership to show you're invested and open to conversations. Always be open to new opportunities for growth and success. Do everything with a smile on your face. Positivity is infectious!
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Financial struggles for students, including changes in federal and state funding and affordability issues. Admissions works closely with financial aid to find best opportunities and ensure students understand their financial responsibility before committing.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Balance between life and work is very important to avoid burnout in sales roles. Celebrate your own successes in your personal life, especially after crazy weeks at work. Make sure your day off is about celebrating you.
