About McKenna
McKenna Savoca is a business analyst at IBM based in Denver, Colorado. She began her career there in 2020 after completing graduate studies in business analytics, following an undergraduate degree in global studies with environmental science and sustainability, a double major in French, and a minor in public policy. In her role, she gathers and translates requirements for automated mail-in claims processes for the Veterans Benefits Administration, working with technical teams to build, test, and release new functionalities. She also contributes to IBM's Program Integrity offering focused on fraud, waste, and abuse detection in the federal space and previously participated in a pro bono project with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group to develop a geospatial heat map for urban planning. Savoca is a certified project management professional (PMP) and attributes her success to anticipating unspoken needs, strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills, comfort with ambiguity, and persistent inquiry to resolve uncertainties.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say that one area where I feel like I've gotten good feedback is doing things that your manager doesn't necessarily ask for but you know that they want. Having good critical thinking or people skills, taking a second and thinking what is it they're actually asking for. Being comfortable with ambiguity, talking to people if you don't know and keep asking until you figure it out.
