Her Story
About McKenzie
McKenzie Williams is an undergraduate student at Howard University pursuing a double major in biology and mathematics with the goal of becoming a physician scientist. She has been engaged in scientific research since high school, approximately four years, beginning with an internship at Moffitt Cancer Center where she saw how mathematics and biology combine for patient outcomes. Her interests shifted toward allergy medicine during college due to personal changes in her immune system leading to frequent allergic reactions. Williams specializes in computational immunology and conducts research at Cornell Medical School, where she has developed her own project, as well as at Yale University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a member of the Karsh Stern Scholars Program at Howard University, which provides support for her MD-PhD pathway, and she is involved with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, including community service such as packing food supply bags for students in Chicago.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received was to do things and sign up for things even if you don't think you're qualified for them quite yet. I do believe that there's never a time where you're going to be perfectly ready for opportunities. As long as you understand your foundation and have a good support system, you can chase after whatever it is you want.
