Her Story

About Megan

I have been in healthcare for about 17 years and consider myself a homegrown revenue cycle leader, having held positions in every role within the revenue cycle. My journey started after working as a massage therapist when I realized I could fulfill my calling to help facilitate healing through revenue cycle work using my brain, empathy, and caring nature instead of my hands. I am currently the Revenue Cycle Manager, where I focus on people management first, operations second, leading culture initiatives, and a lead development program.

Ten minutes with Megan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the way I take care of the people underneath me. I am only as successful as my teams that I lead, and taking care of people who are taking care of the other folks on the front line is the most important part.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best piece of advice I've ever been given is to keep going. A boss said that to me a long time ago, and it was profound to hear a simple message to move forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid to say what you mean. There are a lot of loud voices in the healthcare industry, and I say be louder.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include financial issues in healthcare where only 30% of folks pay their medical bills, so focusing on collecting on the front end, turning folks into educators about the revenue cycle, ensuring clean claims, and the trend of merging with larger systems to keep doors open.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Kindness and empathy are most important. If my legacy is she was a kind human, then I will die a happy person.
