Her Story
About Megan
Megan Brackeen is an emerging sports management professional and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Gameday Operations for Alabama Women’s Hockey while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management with a minor in Sports Media at The University of Alabama. After beginning her journey with the organization as a Game Operations Intern, she quickly earned a promotion to her current leadership role through her dedication, strong work ethic, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced athletic environment. Her responsibilities include coordinating pregame preparations, supporting communication among coaches, officials, and game-day staff, supervising operations, and helping ensure every event runs efficiently and professionally.
Alongside her growing experience in collegiate athletics, Megan has distinguished herself academically. She has earned recognition on both the President’s List for maintaining a 4.0 GPA and the Dean’s List for her academic excellence while balancing coursework, internships, and part-time employment. She is also an active member of Pucks with Purpose, where she serves as the organization’s webmaster and helps support initiatives that raise funds and collect hockey equipment for youth players. Through these experiences, she continues to develop leadership, organizational, and communication skills that prepare her for a long-term career in the sports industry.
Driven by a passion for sports and a commitment to continuous growth, Megan aspires to build a successful career in sports management and game operations. She credits much of her determination and work ethic to the example set by her father and believes in treating others with respect, striving for excellence in every responsibility, and promoting equality in both sports and the workplace. Her advice to young women entering the sports industry is to develop resilience, believe in their abilities, and never allow others to define their potential. With her combination of hands-on experience, academic achievement, and leadership, Megan is building a strong foundation for a promising future in collegiate and professional sports.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my drive. I've always been the kind of person that when I get something in my head, I'm gonna do it, no matter what. I learned that from my dad because he's always been the kind of person to if he wants something, he'll work for it.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received is to believe in yourself, because you wouldn't have the desire to do something if you really couldn't do it. If you have a passion for something, then you're capable of performing at your best level for that thing. From my older sister.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't let anybody tell you that you can't. You have to kind of have a thick skin because there is going to be a lot of men that tell you the sports industry is a men's thing. But it doesn't have to be.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
A big challenge for my team is that there's just not a lot of hockey players in the South. Nobody's coming to Alabama because they want to play hockey there. Finding skilled players and players that want to play is definitely a challenge. We don't have a rink in Tuscaloosa.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Equality is a big one. Women's athletes are not treated the same as male athletes. Just giving it your best. If you're gonna do something, don't just do it halfway. Give it your all. Treat everybody the same way that you want to be treated.
