About Megan
Megan Ducote is a Relational Technologist, Design Leader, and Founder of Houston Bloom, a chapter of the Bloom Network, where she focuses on building decentralized experiences and educational programs that empower people to own their data and create personalized tools. With more than 10 years of experience in design and technology, Megan specializes in user experience, product strategy, prototyping, and developing human-centered solutions that connect communities with emerging technologies. She earned a B.F.A. in Communication Design from Texas State University, where she built the creative foundation that continues to shape her innovative approach to design.
Throughout her career, Megan has held leadership roles focused on product design, technology, and social impact. She previously served as Head of Design at Oak, a startup developing automation tools for impact-driven individuals and organizations, and spent eight years with a leading defense and transportation company, where she strengthened her expertise in product design, development, collaboration, and team leadership. Her work has included designing digital experiences for major transportation initiatives, exploring AI-powered solutions, and creating tools that prioritize accessibility, connection, and meaningful user experiences.
Megan is an active member of the Citizen Infrastructure Builders Club and has contributed her time through volunteer efforts with Expedition Art and as a former volunteer firefighter. She attributes her success to her neurodivergent perspective, which allows her to approach challenges creatively and see opportunities through a unique lens. Guided by values of mutual respect, collaboration, honesty, and the belief that diverse perspectives create stronger outcomes, Megan continues to champion technology and design practices that empower individuals, strengthen communities, and create positive social impact.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to embracing the way I uniquely see the world. As someone who is dyslexic, I spent many years viewing it as a challenge, but over time I learned that having a neurodivergent mind allows me to approach problems differently, think creatively, and bring fresh perspectives to my work. I believe my creativity has been one of my greatest strengths and a key factor in my growth, helping me develop innovative solutions, adapt to challenges, and achieve success throughout my career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to trust my unconventional way of thinking and embrace the value of different perspectives. Throughout my career, I have learned the importance of staying adaptable, challenging traditional approaches, and creating solutions that focus on people rather than simply following existing systems. This mindset has allowed me to remain innovative, navigate change effectively, and make a meaningful impact in my work.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to embrace and value their unique perspectives. Never allow yourself to be silenced or feel that you need to conform to fit a certain mold. Be confident in your abilities, take up space, and do not be afraid to share your ideas and insights. Your individuality is one of your greatest strengths, and allowing yourself to be seen, heard, and authentic is what will help you build a successful and fulfilling career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the software industry right now is the rapid evolution of technology and the impact of AI on job transitions, with many talented professionals facing uncertainty despite the exciting advancements taking place. At the same time, AI presents tremendous opportunities by making software development and innovation more accessible than ever. It enables individuals to create customized tools and solutions tailored to their unique needs rather than relying solely on generalized platforms. I believe this shift will lead to more personalized services, new business opportunities, and a future where more people are empowered to build and shape the technology they need.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are mutual respect, understanding, collaboration, and honesty. I believe the best outcomes come from creating an environment where people feel heard, valued, and encouraged to share their diverse perspectives. By approaching conversations with openness and a willingness to understand others, we can build stronger relationships, foster innovation, and achieve better results together.
