Her Story

About Megan

I've been working in electrical project management for the past year at Venus, a company I love working for. Prior to this role, I earned my bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 2022 while simultaneously working as a personal and executive assistant - a position that taught me invaluable soft skills that complement my technical education. My journey into this field was influenced by my mother, who is an architect for the government working in construction management. I was always interested in power and power distribution, which is exactly what electrical contract work involves. What drew me to project management specifically was finding that intersection between engineering and collaboration - I wanted to utilize my technical degree while still working closely with people. During college, I joined IEEE, the National Organization for Electrical Engineering, where I focused on the administrative side and eventually became a program coordinator on the board for my school chapter. In my current role, I manage projects from start to finish, handling everything from daily emails and documentation to traveling to test completed equipment. I'm passionate about what I do - it's like doing little puzzles all the time. I love the environment and the people in this industry, which is a little less strictly corporate and more casual, friendly, and collaborative. Looking ahead, I plan to take my FE exam as the next step toward eventually obtaining my professional engineering license, and I see myself continuing to grow in this field, moving into a senior position as I gain more knowledge and experience.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'm very passionate about any job that I do - even if I don't love the job, I'm very passionate about it. It's important to me that I work somewhere where I can enjoy the environment and the people, because I love to work with people and I also love to be able to still utilize my technical knowledge. Education is very important to me because I have seen what it can do for people, both at home and around me. I was lucky enough to receive help from my own parents and my own friends, so if I care about someone and they need help academically, I want to help them. I value finding work that brings together everything I enjoy - the technical challenges, the collaborative environment, and the opportunity to keep learning and growing.
