Her Story
About Megan
Megan Marshall is a food scientist specializing in long-term innovation for seasonings manufacturing. In her role, she researches emerging technologies that could apply to meat products, including clean label yield enhancers, tenderizing agents, and materials to assist with shredding, as well as approaches to sugar and sodium reduction for improved nutrition. She has been working in the field for about nine years. Marshall earned both a culinary degree and a food science degree from Johnson & Wales after initially studying education and working in kitchens. She attributes her drive to the example set by her mother, who worked as a sales VP while her father stayed at home. Outside of her professional work, she has volunteered with Junior Achievement for a couple of years. Her advice to young women entering the industry is to reach out to people, attend events using student tickets where available, and not be discouraged by the challenges of breaking into the field.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Megan
01What do you attribute your success to?
My mother worked her butt off as a sales VP while my father stayed at home. Watching her be this amazing successful person from both a career and personal standpoint really instilled that drive in me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to reach out to people and go to events. There are always student tickets and student events where you can meet people in the industry. It's hard to get into and not easy, so don't be discouraged.
