Her Story

About Megan

I recently returned to the nonprofit industry after supporting nonprofits from a corporate perspective for the past 10 years. I am now the editor of Kappa Delta Sororities Magazine, called The Anglass, which is distributed to more than 210,000 women worldwide. In this role, I oversee the ideation, creation, and publication of the magazine, bringing stories to life about how our organization builds confidence and provides lifelong members with continuing education and personal and professional development. Prior to this, I worked at Kendra Scott in philanthropy and marketing, partnering with nonprofits across the Midwest, including helping the Mighty Mason Foundation grow its fundraising and impact.

Ten minutes with Megan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience and not being afraid to fail or hear no. In my undergraduate career, I learned how to fail and try again, whether rewriting a headline or pursuing a story after rejection. This built resilience that has sustained me throughout my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

An editor early on told me that there might be times, especially as a young woman, that people underestimate you, and to use that to your advantage. Know that you are capable, get the job done, and never let someone's underestimation stop you from believing in yourself.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Lead with heart and what you're passionate about and good at. Connect your passions to the work you do, and remain open to opportunities even if they don't fit your exact plan, as life can throw curveballs that lead to incredible places.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There are so many incredible stories from our Kappa Delta membership, and the challenge is getting out there to learn them, connecting with people, and ensuring we tell the stories that need to be told while communicating meaningfully with such a wide audience.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Leading with compassion is incredibly important. Recognizing that the people you work with are human, and leading in a way that treats them as more than numbers or productivity, as discussed in Bob Chapman's book Everybody Matters.
