Her Story

About Megan

I've been in my field for about 15 years now, and honestly, I just kind of fell into it. One of my professors when I was getting my master's degree recommended me for a role at a bank, and that's how I got started. I never would have chosen it on my own, but the universe has a way of sending us things at the right time. Today, as Director of Campaign Intelligence, my main area of expertise is customer behavior and customer segmentation. I oversee a team of analysts who do reporting for our national accounts, while also building out our database and reporting infrastructure for some exciting things we have coming down the pipeline. I work in an extremely male-dominated field, so it's exciting for me to be in the position I am in and to help other women get in. I'm a single mother with three children, and I've been extremely fortunate to work for a company that allows me the flexibility to thrive in my personal life, which helps me want to thrive in my professional life as well.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Megan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say that I attribute my success to hard work and the examples that were set by my parents. I learned hard work and education from both of them. Those values they instilled in me have been foundational to everything I've accomplished in my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The greatest career advice I have ever received was that one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is the gift of self-knowledge, knowing what your strengths and your weaknesses are, so that you can play up to your strengths and you can own and get better on your weaknesses. As simple as that may sound, it's one of the greatest things that's ever been told to me, and it's honestly one of the things that I share with anybody that I bring on under my team. It's one of the first things that I tell them.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would give them the same advice that I consider the best career advice I've ever received. The greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of self-awareness, knowing your strengths and knowing your weaknesses, and being able to own up to them. Nobody is perfect at everything, and as much as we would all like and want to be, that's okay. It's okay to say that you don't know the answer, but you're gonna get it. I think that's extremely important.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say that the biggest challenges are staying on top of the constant changes in our industry. It's a strength and a weakness, right? The beauty of our industry is it's always growing and it's always changing, so it can be difficult to kind of stay on top of those changes. But at the same time, it does allow different opportunities for growth, especially for women. My field is extremely male-dominated, so it's exciting for somebody like me to be able to be in a position I am in a male-dominated field.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For me, it's always important to do right by the customer. I also believe that operating off of a strong foundation with anything that you do, both professionally and personally, is important. I think that finding a job and finding a role with a company that fits with your personal values is important, because it kind of helps you carry over your mission into your personal life as well. I'm a single mother, and I've been extremely fortunate to have the flexibility to go pick my children up from school. They allow me the flexibility to thrive in my personal life, and it helps me and makes me want to thrive in my professional life as well.
