About Megan

Megan Pierce is a customer marketing, field marketing, and expansion marketing professional with eight years of experience in the retail tech industry. She currently serves as Customer Marketing Lead at monday.com, a role she moved into just over a year ago after leading field marketing and transitioning to expansion marketing at the company. Prior to monday.com, she spent seven years at Rakuten, where she began with co-op positions during her time at Northeastern University and continued in full-time roles after graduation. She graduated from Northeastern University in 2019 with a degree in business and a concentration in marketing, along with a minor in art and design. Her co-op experiences included work at Rakuten in New York and its Brighton, England office. Megan attributes her success to her ability to prioritize, stay diligent and organized, communicate effectively, solve problems, and draw on her love of puzzles for creative brainstorming. She advises focusing on one's strengths as a superpower and starting somewhere in the desired field to build experience and craft a career story.

Ten minutes with Megan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think having the ability to step back and prioritize importance has helped me to navigate where to focus my time. Also just being diligent and organized and a good communicator and a problem solver. In my spare time I also love doing puzzles which weaves nicely into creative brainstorming and navigating challenges.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to hone in on your skill and view that as your superpower. It's helped me really navigate where I can sit with my strengths and know that you don't have to be good at everything. It's good to be specialized in certain things.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just try to start somewhere, try to get your hands on a role within the realm that you want to be, and you can always navigate from there. Any experience that can lead you to the ultimate role will help you. There's always a story to craft from the jobs that you take on and the challenges that you get to experience. Starting small is even okay sometimes, just getting in there, getting your hands wet.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

AI is a very disrupting technology and we're placing bets on where we want to be within it. It's a big unknown right now. The biggest opportunity is to leverage AI but not lose the human side of things. There's a lot of AI slop going around especially in marketing, so it's important to continue using it to get 90-95% of the way there but keep the human piece to make sure the output resonates with people.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Streamlined communication and making sure everyone's on the same page, being the top-tier communicator both at home and at work. Also giving credit where credit's due, making sure that the people who put the pieces together are recognized for the piece that they held.
