Her Story

About Megan

After graduating from the University of Virginia with a psychology degree in 2013, I moved to Los Angeles where I was spearheading West Coast operations for a global training company. From the outside looking in, I was doing really well and making a bunch of money, but I started struggling with anxiety and depression for the first time in my life. I made what I call a classic millennial move - I quit my job, gave away everything I owned, became a minimalist, and moved to Thailand where I taught English. It was pretty awesome when I was stripped of everything to come back to the basics. I went to this little juice and smoothie shop every day on my way to teaching, and I thought, this is what I'm going to do. I moved back to Virginia and started my first beverage business, cold-pressed juices, in 2017 as a way to help people on their mental and physical health journey. Through that first business, I discovered I wasn't alone in dealing with anxiety and depression. I was talking to a lot of my customers about different adaptogens and nootropics I had taken for mental health, and decided to put it into a water and scale it. That's how Crunchy Hydration was born in 2019. I love the formulation and creating new products - I was just working in the lab to create a brand new product line and new flavors. What gets me most excited is the creativity part and watching other people go after their dreams.

Ten minutes with Megan

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to just do it. Momentum comes from movement, not watching from the sidelines. You need to put it out there, tell other people, and you will be amazed at how many people in your community will want to help you, and you're never going to know if you don't try.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

What's most important to me is helping high-performing people get to where they want to be, but doing it with harmony. I don't really like the word balance, but harmony - are you in sync? Are you where you want to be? Are you taking time for you? I love all things health and wellness, and I've created a wellness room in my house where I do sauna, yoga, and use my acupressure mat. I'm passionate about turning pain into purpose and watching other people go after their dreams. What gets me most excited is the creativity part of formulating new products and helping others, like when I helped Taylor get her business started and watched that come to life.
