Her Interview
Ten minutes with Megan
01What do you attribute your success to?
Success isn't a solo achievement; it is fueled by a love for my work, the clients I serve, and the strong foundation of family and friends supporting me behind the scenes. My passion for serving my clients motivates me every day, keeps me engaged in my work, and inspires me to consistently give my best. That enthusiasm allows me to build meaningful relationships and deliver exceptional service. I also attribute my success to my family and friends, who provide the unwavering support and balance I need to thrive. Their encouragement grounds me outside of work, allowing me to fully step away, recharge, and return to work with fresh energy.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to 'work hard, play hard.' To me, this means diving headfirst into my work and taking personal responsibility for the results, but to do that consistently, I have to protect my personal time, too. Balancing intense dedication with time to enjoy life is how I make sure I always bring my best energy to the table.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would like to encourage young women entering the accounting (and every) field to advocate for themselves with absolute confidence. It’s easy to stay quiet early in your career, but your knowledge, ideas, and perspective matter right now. Never allow anyone to diminish the value you bring. You are an important member of the team, and ensuring your voice is heard is key to your long-term growth.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One major challenge for the auditing industry right now is less workforce. Since the pandemic began, a significant amount of our workforce has left or gone remote, which leads to fewer people to handle an increasing workload. This talent shortage puts immense pressure on remaining teams, leading to tighter deadlines, increased risk of burnout, and the challenge of maintaining high-quality audits. Furthermore, with teams being fully or partially remote, managing collaboration, training junior staff, and maintaining strong client communication requires a lot more deliberate effort, which I experience personally everyday as a remote employee.
Another challenge, which is also an opportunity when used correctly, is all of the technology available. Cybersecurity is a top global corporate threat. Financial data is deeply intertwined with cloud systems, requiring auditors to test cloud configurations and third-party data vulnerability alongside traditional financial controls. Also, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently reshaping the auditing profession by shifting an auditor's role from manual data gathering to strategic risk analysis, and while it provides relief to an industry facing labor shortages as mentioned above, it also introduces substantial risks.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In both my work and personal life, integrity, communication, honesty, and overall ethical professionalism are the foundation of everything I do. In my career, these values allow me to build deep trust, ensuring clients and colleagues always feel informed, respected, and comfortable. In my personal life, that same open communication and integrity are what solidify my relationships with family and friends. For me, living by these core principles is what allows me to work hard, protect my personal balance, and bring my best, most authentic self to every environment.
