Megan Tackett is a media, communications, and engagement professional with a deep-rooted passion for independent journalism and community-centered storytelling. Currently serving as Associate Publisher of the Aspen Daily News, Megan plays a key role in guiding the publication’s evolution toward a sustainable, community-supported news model. Her work spans revenue innovation, membership and donor engagement, event strategy, and cross-newsroom collaboration—all grounded in a steadfast commitment to editorial integrity and public-service journalism. Known for thriving under deadline pressure, Megan brings exceptional communication skills, creative energy, and a collaborative spirit to every endeavor.

Previously, Megan served as Director of Development for the Aspen Daily News, where she founded and led the Aspen Daily News Journalism Fund, raising nearly $150,000 in under six months to expand investigative and enterprise reporting in the Roaring Fork Valley. Her leadership helped launch a successful membership program, grow community engagement, enhance digital accessibility, and strengthen partnerships with local and national journalism organizations. In parallel, Megan is the Morning Edition Host for Aspen Public Radio, delivering timely, thoughtful local news to listeners each weekday morning and producing a daily local newscast podcast that keeps the community informed and connected.

Megan’s journalism career also includes her tenure as Editor-in-Chief of the Aspen Daily News, where she led the newsroom through major editorial expansions, First Amendment battles, and award-winning coverage that earned statewide and national recognition. A graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Megan is fiercely dedicated to protecting a free press, amplifying local voices, and ensuring journalism remains accessible, trustworthy, and rooted in the communities it serves. Relentlessly optimistic and driven by purpose, she continues to advocate for the future of independent local news.
