Her Story
About Megan
Megan Truett is an Executive Assistant at TCS Mechanical, a mechanical construction firm based in Bastrop, Texas. In her role, she has expanded beyond traditional executive support to become an active contributor to workforce development and community engagement. Her work focuses on creating opportunities for students and connecting individuals with career pathways in the skilled trades. Megan earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Houston Christian University, an educational foundation that contributes to her understanding of people, development, and performance.
A significant part of Megan’s professional contributions is her leadership in coordinating TCS Mechanical’s summer internship program. Over three years, the program has engaged 17 interns across multiple school districts through Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding. She also serves on the Workforce Solutions Board and has helped develop community partnerships that introduce students to careers in welding, building information modeling (BIM), HVAC, and project management. Megan credits the support of TCS Mechanical’s leadership for giving her the opportunity to pursue new ideas and turn them into meaningful initiatives.
Megan approaches her work with initiative, curiosity, accountability, and a strong commitment to finding solutions. She believes that not knowing an answer should never prevent someone from asking questions and pursuing the information needed to move forward. She is particularly passionate about addressing challenges in the construction industry, including the shortage of skilled tradespeople, the adoption of technologies such as robotic welding and 3D automation, and the mental health challenges affecting construction workers. Megan encourages young women entering the industry to pursue their passions, take action rather than wait for the perfect opportunity, use available resources, learn from mistakes, and continue moving forward.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Megan
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to the trust and freedom my company has given me to pursue ideas. I also believe in being resourceful—if I don’t know the answer, I’ll find it and follow through.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is that there’s no perfect time—just take the opportunity, make mistakes, learn from them, and keep moving forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I’d encourage young women to remember that they don’t have to make a career decision at 18. Start with what you’re passionate about, explore every resource available, and don’t wait for the perfect time—just go for it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities is the growing shortage of skilled tradespeople as experienced workers retire. At the same time, technologies like robotic welding, 3D automation, and BIM are transforming the industry. A major challenge is also addressing the growing mental health crisis in construction.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me most are integrity, collaboration, accountability, adaptability, service, continuous learning, resilience, and commitment to others. I believe success is most meaningful when it creates opportunities for others and helps open doors for those coming behind me.
