Her Interview
Ten minutes with Meggy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being open to unexpected opportunities, working hard, and continually learning throughout my career. What started with taking the wrong calculus class ultimately led me to a rewarding career in civil engineering, where I've been able to grow as a leader and help advance critical minerals initiatives. I'm also grateful for the professional organizations, mentors, and volunteer experiences that have challenged me, expanded my perspective, and reinforced the importance of giving back.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
To build a pool of mentors, so not just having one mentor or champion, but having several... build your own kind of personal board of directors.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give in to imposter syndrome, and don't self-eliminate yourself from opportunities... Really work to own your own self-confidence, and that way you can dispel imposter syndrome, and know that you belong, and you deserve the seat at the table.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The mining industry is definitely a male-dominated industry... When I go to client meetings, I'll bring along an older gentleman with me, just for credibility... balancing that with new motherhood has definitely been a challenge.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me are family, balance, and purpose. Becoming a mother to my eight-month-old daughter has given me a new perspective on both my personal and professional life, reminding me to prioritize what matters most while striving to be fully present in every role I take on. I believe success comes from working hard, supporting others, and creating a life where my family and career can thrive together.
