Her Story

About Mel

Mel Romero is a program manager in the compliance field and the owner of Enigmel, a wellness business she launched six years ago. In her role as program manager, she oversees a small team and has successfully managed the transition to a significantly larger contract, achieving nearly 100 percent of KPI goals in its first year. Through Enigma, Romero curates and staffs community engagement programs featuring movement and dance for low-income students in after-school county programs, senior communities, and luxury apartment buildings. She earned a bachelor's degree in supply chain management from the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business and later became a certified trainer and corrective exercise specialist. Romero attributes her success to an innate drive to achieve more for herself and her family while making a positive impact in underserved communities. She values honesty, equity, fairness, and sharing love with her team, and she advises staying curious about how one's role contributes to the broader organization.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mel

01What do you attribute your success to?

This innate feeling that I was meant to do more for myself and for my family, and the desire to help my community, especially underserved communities, to make an impact.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Stay curious about how your role impacts the company as a whole or anything, which allows you to continue to grow and learn.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunity: being accessible but least connected, where my business can help with connection. Challenge: wearing many hats, juggling everything while learning, and figuring how life fits into the business long-term plan.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being honest, being as equitable as you can be, being fair and sharing the love with the team, and loving yourself because what you put out comes back to you.
