Melanie Bloom is a dedicated agricultural educator with over 16 years of experience in both classroom instruction and curriculum development. Currently serving as an agricultural education instructor at Sioux Central High School and Iowa’s 2025 Teacher of the Year, she guides middle and high school students in agricultural science while advising FFA chapters and supervising work-based learning through SAEs. Her passion for fostering student growth extends beyond the classroom as she actively develops innovative, hands-on learning experiences that connect students with real-world agricultural practices.

In addition to her classroom work, Melanie serves as a curriculum and professional development consultant, collaborating with educators across Iowa and the Midwest. She has received recognition for her work in educational resource creation, including the Iowa OER Creation Award, and has contributed to projects emphasizing apiculture, farm-to-table initiatives, and inquiry-based learning. Her expertise spans educational technology, instructional design, and curriculum development, helping teachers implement effective and engaging agricultural education programs.

Melanie holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Education from Iowa State University and is a Ph.D. candidate in Agricultural Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is an active member of professional organizations such as the American Association of Agricultural Educators and the Association for Career and Technical Education, and has served on advisory councils including the Iowa Council on Agricultural Education and the Buena Vista County Agricultural Extension Council. Her career reflects a steadfast commitment to student success, professional collaboration, and advancing agricultural education at both local and state levels.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of dedication, hands-on experience, and a passion for agricultural education. As an FFA advisor and SAE supervisor, I have guided students through work-based learning opportunities that develop practical skills and leadership. My active involvement with the National Association of Agricultural Educators and the Iowa Agricultural Educators Association has allowed me to stay connected with best practices and industry trends. Above all, I credit my grit and perseverance for driving results and fostering meaningful growth in both my students and myself.

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life center around service, integrity, and education. I prioritize supporting my community through education and outreach initiatives that empower individuals with knowledge and practical skills.
