Her Interview
Ten minutes with Melanie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I like to work and get my hands dirty. I really want to understand and learn and continue to learn. Being able to sit at the table and really dig into something, deep diving into something to really understand it, has helped me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Going out and doing something and don't let your internal talk track get in your way. Especially in a male-dominated industry, it's very easy to talk yourself out of speaking up. The push to say go for it, don't psych yourself out before giving yourself a chance.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
There is so much opportunity for a woman in the industry and there is such a need for diverse thinking. When females are in the room, more ideas come up and there's transformation of how the room thinks. Their opinion matters and they have an opportunity to shape the direction. There are programs and mentorships available now that can help women succeed.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In the media and video business there's a lot of competition for customers. Netflix streaming was a pivotal point that changed the industry, making it very difficult for TV operators and pay TV service providers to compete. Technology is constantly changing, and with high dollar investments it's hard to switch. Chip/RAM shortage due to AI data centers is a challenge across tech industries.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being genuine. Not being fake. You can't forge good relationships when you're playing a role or being fake. When establishing long-term relationships with customers, you really have to be genuine because they're going to see through it and they're not going to trust you.
