About Melanie
Melanie Chambers is the Business Resilience Program Manager for Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC), a data products company that serves as a financial intermediary between airlines, hotels, and travel agencies within the finance and travel industry. In this role, which she has held for four years after transitioning from a career as a government contractor in the public sector, she leads the company's business continuity planning, emergency management efforts, and readiness exercises such as fire drills and evacuations across ARC's offices. She holds several professional certifications, including Master Exercise Practitioner, FEMA Practitioner, and Continuity Practitioner Certified, along with the Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) designation from DRI International. Chambers' path into the finance and travel sector was not a straight line. She began her studies with a focus on travel and tourism before redirecting her academic pursuits toward communication arts, ultimately earning her Bachelor of Arts from Salisbury University with a minor in business administration. That shift gave her a versatile skill set spanning communication, relationship management, and business operations, one that has proven especially valuable in an industry built on interconnected financial and operational relationships. She also holds a home staging certification, a credential tied to a previous entrepreneurial venture outside her core career. Prior to joining ARC, Chambers built an extensive background in mission assurance and continuity planning through roles with organizations including ManTech, Engineering Solutions Inc., and CACI International, where she supported federal and defense clients on emergency preparedness, continuity of operations, and crisis management initiatives. Throughout her career, she has emphasized collaboration, trust, and adaptability, and she has embraced emerging tools like AI to strengthen meeting facilitation and organizational efficiency while remaining mindful of data security. In recognition of her professional journey and contributions to the field, Chambers has been named an Influential Woman for 2026.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Melanie
01What do you attribute your success to?
Understanding people, listening, and the ability to communicate with them. Communication is essential and keeping an open mind, respecting myself, as well as others has forged paths and built lasting relationships.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received, and one I learned fairly early on, is that at the end of the day, your family will always be there for you. Jobs change, careers evolve, and companies come and go, but family remains constant, so I make it a point to keep that perspective front and center.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice would be to trust your instincts and follow your passion rather than chasing a paycheck. When you pursue work you genuinely love, everything else tends to fall into place, so I encourage others to trust their gut and chase the dream, not the dollar, because the financial rewards will follow when you're doing something you truly care about.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in business resilience right now is figuring out how to responsibly integrate AI while safeguarding sensitive company and client information. At the same time, I see real opportunity in this shift, particularly in how AI can support tasks like capturing notes during meetings, tests, and exercises, making our processes more efficient without compromising security.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my professional life, I place great value on teamwork and on ensuring the organization remains resilient, and trust is central to how I operate both at work and at home. Personally, I hold honor and integrity in the highest regard, and I strive to instill those same values in my family and colleagues. I also believe in staying open to new opportunities and approaching challenges as someone who brings solutions rather than just pointing out problems.
