About Melanie
I am an economic development and community investment professional with a diverse background in financial services, education, and nonprofit leadership, currently serving as Economic Development Program Officer at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, a role I have held since June 2021, where I support community development initiatives, manage account relationships, and leverage data analysis to drive economic growth and investment in Jacksonville, Florida.
Prior to this role, I served as Economic Development Officer for the City of Anderson for over two years, where I led economic development initiatives and community investment strategies. I also served as Chief Executive Officer of ANFG Financial Group for nearly four years, where I led financial services and wealth management operations, and as Account Executive at New York Life Insurance Company for three years, where I provided portfolio analysis, financial risk management, wealth growth and protection, legacy planning, and tax strategies to clients.
Earlier in my career, I served as a High School English Teacher at Duval County Public Schools for three years, where I taught International Baccalaureate courses, served as Yearbook Advisor, and also served as an Adjunct Instructor at FSCJ.
I hold a Master's degree in Instructional Systems Technology and Performance Improvement from Indiana University Bloomington, where I was a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Vice President of the Black Student Union, and a member of the African American Chorale Ensemble. I also completed coursework toward a Doctorate in Business at Anderson University.
Across my career in economic development, financial services, and education, my work has been driven by a commitment to building stronger communities, creating economic opportunity, and empowering individuals and organizations to achieve their full potential. Whether I am leading community investment initiatives, providing financial guidance, or teaching the next generation, I bring a strategic mindset, strong relationship-building skills, and a dedication to making a lasting impact. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue advancing economic development and community investment through my work at LISC.
