Melanie Koch
Melanie Koch is an accomplished restaurant marketing strategist and Fractional CMO based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, serving restaurant concepts nationwide. With over a decade of experience specializing in restaurant marketing and nearly 15 years in broader marketing, Melanie has built a career helping restaurant concepts grow their brand, increase Average Unit Volume (AUV), and develop cohesive, results-driven marketing strategies.
Throughout her career, Melanie was often told by franchisees how much they valued how deeply she cared about their success. That level of investment became a defining trait—but in traditional corporate roles, she often found her hands tied, unable to fully execute the strategies she knew would make the greatest impact. Recognizing this gap, she made the decision to break away and build her own path.
As a Fractional CMO, Melanie now partners directly with restaurant operators to provide high-level strategic leadership without the overhead of a large agency. Her approach combines strategic oversight with hands-on execution and transparent communication, allowing her clients to access meaningful, results-driven marketing support in a more flexible and cost-effective way.
She has led initiatives for well-known restaurant partners, including District Taco, Pizza Inn, and Trapper’s Sushi Co., overseeing internal design, PR, and marketing teams to deliver measurable impact. Her work has earned her recognition for both leadership and creativity, including a Leadership Award from Arizona State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as a Graphic Design of the USA Award and a Davey Award.
Beyond her professional achievements, Melanie is deeply committed to giving back and mentoring the next generation of marketing professionals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she spearheaded the #ForAllBabies initiative, bringing together restaurants across the United States to help source and distribute baby formula to local families in need—demonstrating the power of the hospitality industry to support its communities.
She encourages young professionals to seek mentorship, absorb knowledge, and fully invest themselves in their work, reflecting the values of honesty, integrity, and passion that define both her career and personal life.

What do you attribute your success to?
I’m deeply passionate about what I do, and that energy tends to carry through everything I take on. It pushes me to achieve things others might see as impossible—I’m determined to make things happen. People have told me I care too much, but that same passion is exactly what led me to start my own business. Now I get to travel, work with different restaurant concepts, and build something that’s truly my own—and I love every minute of it.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One piece of advice that’s always stuck with me is not to overthink things—stress doesn’t help you solve problems. Staying calm and clear-headed makes all the difference, especially in a fast-paced environment. At the end of the day, challenges come and go, and there’s always an opportunity to reset and come back stronger tomorrow.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice I’d give is to soak up as much knowledge as you can and find a mentor—someone who can really show you the ropes. I didn’t have that starting out, especially in restaurant marketing, so I had to figure a lot of it out on my own. There are so many moving parts, and having someone experienced to learn from can make a huge difference. Take notes, stay curious, and fully invest yourself in the process. If this is what you truly want to do, go all in—just know there’s a lot to learn upfront, but it pays off in the long run. Looking back, I definitely wish I had someone to guide me through everything I know now.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the restaurant industry right now is how saturated the market has become. With so many concepts and options available, it can be difficult for any one brand to truly stand out and build lasting success.
At the same time, that challenge presents a powerful opportunity. It pushes us to think more strategically and creatively about what makes each concept unique—its story, its experience, and the emotional connection it creates with its audience. The opportunity lies in helping brands cut through the noise in a meaningful way and giving people a clear, compelling reason to choose them.
In many ways, that’s what makes this work so exciting—it’s about turning competition into creativity and helping brands define who they are with confidence.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me, both personally and professionally, are honesty and integrity. I believe in always putting your best foot forward, but also being willing to be transparent when something could have been done better.
That’s something I carry into my work with clients. I’m very open and honest—I’ll tell them when I think a campaign could have performed better, and I’ll come prepared with ideas on how we can improve moving forward. I don’t believe in just presenting numbers or telling people what they want to hear. I believe in building trust through real, straightforward communication.
At the end of the day, I want to be someone my clients can rely on—someone who is honest, accountable, and always focused on delivering better results.
