Ten minutes with Melanie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of discipline, continuous learning, and a willingness to take calculated risks. Throughout my career, I have remained adaptable and open to stepping outside of my comfort zone when opportunities for growth or impact presented themselves. I believe that meaningful progress often comes from embracing change, even when the path is uncertain. I also credit my success to strong relationships built on trust and collaboration, as well as a consistent focus on aligning people strategies with business goals. Above all, I approach my work with resilience, accountability, and a commitment to delivering results while never being afraid to take risks that can lead to innovation and improvement.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the HR and people strategy field is to lead with confidence, even when you are still building experience because confidence is built through action, not waiting for the perfect moment. Be curious, stay adaptable, and never stop learning, as this industry evolves constantly and rewards those who remain proactive and informed. Don’t be afraid to take on challenges that stretch you; growth often comes from stepping into situations that feel uncomfortable at first. At the same time, remember that kindness and strength can coexist being empathetic does not make you less authoritative, and being firm does not require losing your humanity. Build strong relationships, trust your voice, and advocate for yourself and others with integrity and professionalism.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is maintaining work-life balance in fast-paced, always-on environments where HR is expected to be both strategic and highly responsive. At the same time, this creates an opportunity to reshape workplace culture by promoting more sustainable work models, stronger wellbeing initiatives, and policies that genuinely support flexibility and employee wellness.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are courage, kindness, and integrity. I believe courage allows me to take risks, embrace challenges, and make decisions that drive meaningful progress even when the path is uncertain. Kindness is essential in how I lead and interact with others, as I strive to create environments built on respect, empathy, and genuine support. Integrity is the foundation of everything I do—it guides my decisions, ensures accountability, and helps me build trust in both professional relationships and personal connections.
