Her Story

About Melanie

Melanie Simmons is the Founder of The Couples Community, an organization she established with her husband five years ago to create a supportive and welcoming space for couples seeking to strengthen their relationships. With 18 years of experience in psychology and mental health, Melanie brings extensive professional knowledge and personal understanding to her work. Through retreats, virtual events, and community engagement, she provides couples with opportunities to connect, receive relationship support, and navigate challenges together. What began as a mission inspired by her own experiences with infertility and miscarriage has grown into a thriving community of more than 700 members and 12,000 followers.

Alongside her entrepreneurial work, Melanie serves with the Alabama Department of Mental Health in its Autism Services Division, where she contributes to supporting individuals and families within the autism community. Her passion for psychology began during her teenage years and was influenced by her aunt's diagnosis of schizophrenia, which inspired her interest in understanding mental health and helping others. Throughout her career, she has gained experience in various areas of mental health, including residential program leadership and developmental disability services. She is a Certified Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional, Registered Behavior Technician, and certified life coach.

Melanie earned her bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in creative writing and completed her Master of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis at Capella University, with graduation scheduled for November 7. She has also been accepted into a doctoral program in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, reflecting her continued commitment to education and professional development. Through her work in mental health and her leadership of The Couples Community, Melanie remains dedicated to creating meaningful connections, expanding access to support, and helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and understanding.
