Her Story

About Melanie

Melanie Stevens has built a career spanning more than 25 years in healthcare, including 7 years focused on home health marketing as a Senior Account Executive. Without a college degree, she entered the field directly after high school where she focused on business studies and supplemented her education with additional courses. In her role, Stevens acts as a liaison between providers and patients, ensuring individuals receive quality in-home care by reviewing reports, coordinating with clinicians, and building relationships with referral sources. She is also a peer trainer who mentors new team members by sharing her experiences and encouraging their own creative approaches. Stevens finds motivation in her curiosity about people, her ability to be both creative and strategic in her position, and her faith in God. She values honesty and strives to make a positive difference in every life she encounters, both professionally and personally.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Melanie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I love people, so I think that's been the thing that just keeps me going is being curious, and wanting to know people. And that curiosity and that I want to, you know, meet everybody, kind of get you into the marketing field, and you're successful with that. And I like to be creative, and it's this position that I'm in actually allows me to be very creative, as well as strategic. And on top of that, it gets me meeting people, and those things are the things that are that keeps me motivated. Also faith in God.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't put your thoughts in a box. Always take into consideration that everybody's different. Broaden my horizons and consider every aspect. Have faith in God. God actually is the one that's in control. No matter how hard I work or what I do, it's in His hands. Sometimes we put too much on ourselves when we really just should stop, breathe, and pray.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be consistent, don't give up. You can get consumed with the negativity sometimes and the comparison, but that's not why we're here. Be you, be creative. Everybody has their light that they shine, and they should continue to shine their own light, no matter what that is. Just continue to let it get dimmed by the things that we have to deal with daily.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities: Getting a commission on bringing in business, showing income based on efforts rather than flat salary. Challenges: Very competitive with around 50 other agencies providing same services. Biggest challenge is standing out, making a positive difference, and getting providers to give us a chance first.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My faith and being honest is really important to me across the board. Working for a company that has a purpose and a mission to continue to try to make a positive difference in all the lives that we serve. I try to take that across the board, not just my work. I always try to make a positive difference in every single life that I'm able to be around. Be a good human.
