With more than 15 years of leadership experience spanning nonprofit organizations, workforce development, corporate partnerships, and organizational transformation, she has become known for building high-performing teams, driving strategic innovation, and helping individuals unlock careers that create generational impact.
As Senior Director of Central Program Delivery at Year Up United, Melinda leads national initiatives that strengthen career services, program delivery, and organizational effectiveness while helping bridge the opportunity divide for young adults across the country. Throughout her decade with the organization, she has served in multiple executive leadership roles, consistently advancing student outcomes, scaling cross-functional operations, cultivating employer partnerships, and leading teams through periods of significant growth and transformation.
Raised as the youngest sibling in a big family deeply rooted in service, Melinda learned early that leadership is measured by how many lives you elevate. Those values, combined with educational experiences that expanded her vision beyond her neighborhood, inspired a lifelong commitment to helping underserved communities gain access to education, meaningful careers, and financial stability.
Before joining Year Up United, Melinda led workforce initiatives at a local nonprofit , where she oversaw large-scale employment programs that empowered individuals facing barriers to self-sufficiency. Her work has always centered on one mission: creating pathways that allow people not only to find jobs, but to build lasting careers and brighter futures.
Widely respected for her authentic leadership, strategic thinking, and ability to inspire others, Melinda leads with equal parts compassion and accountability. She believes organizations thrive when leaders invest in people first, fostering cultures rooted in purpose, excellence, and collaboration.
Beyond her executive leadership, Melinda is a member of the Forbes Nonprofit Council and serves on the Workforce Professional Alliance of Philadelphia Advisory Board, where she helps shape the future of workforce innovation and equitable access to opportunity.
Today, Melinda’s mission extends beyond the boardroom. As an entrepreneur, wellness advocate, and motivational speaker, she is passionate about helping others build healthy, purpose-driven, and financially empowered lives. Whether mentoring emerging leaders, speaking on transformational leadership, or championing initiatives that break cycles of poverty through education and employment, she remains committed to creating lasting impact—one person, one family, and one community at a time.
“Melinda believes that purpose is most powerful when it is shared, and that true success is measured not only by what we accomplish, but by the lives we help transform along the way.”
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Melinda
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being both book smart and street smart. Education gave me the knowledge, but life gave me wisdom, resilience, and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about what you know—it’s about how you lead, how you serve, and how you show up when things get hard.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
You don’t have to be the smartest person in the room. Great leaders surround themselves with talented people who bring different perspectives and strengths. When you build diverse, high-performing teams and empower others to lead, everyone succeeds.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never shrink yourself to fit into someone else’s expectations. Know your value, own your voice, and don’t wait for permission to lead. Build relationships, stay curious, and remember that integrity and consistency will open more doors than titles ever will.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities is reimagining how we prepare people for the future of work. Industries are evolving rapidly, and workforce development must evolve with them. The organizations that invest in developing talent, creating equitable access, and embracing innovation will shape the next generation of leaders and strengthen our economy.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, faith, service, and excellence guide everything I do. I believe success means very little if you don’t use it to lift others. Whether I’m leading teams, mentoring emerging professionals, or supporting someone’s personal growth, I strive to leave people better than I found them.
